
Melissa Crystal O'Neil (born July 12, 1988[1]) is a Canadian actor and singer. O'Neil is the first Canadian female winner of Canadian Idol's 3rd season, was the winner in 2005. As an actress, she is famous for her performances as Two and Rebecca / Portia Lin on the Syfy science fiction show Dark Matter and as Officer Lucy Chen on the ABC police procedural drama The Rookie.Although she was highly praised by judges, O'Neil suffered huge setbacks in both the Top 10 and Top 9 weeks of the finals, as she was voted in both the lowest three and the bottom two in both the bottom three and bottom two. After being stunned, judges asked viewers to cast their votes for Melissa O'Neil, who was clearly the most loud contestant. O'Neil's performances were always praised and O'Neil was not relegated to the bottom 3. Zack Werner, the judge, declared O'Neil "a chance to win the whole thing". O'Neil together with Rex Goudie, made it to the finals on September 7, 2005. Werner, a judge, famously declared that the headlines of the following day's papers would be "The King [Kalan Porter] is dead. Long live the Queen." O'Neil defeated Goudie during the grand finale results shows on September 14, 2005 . He went on to win the title of Canada's third Idol.
